About the artist

Chris has loved and been passionate about art since she was a child.  As she moved through life,  raising her family and running her own business for 30 years took much of her time and focus, she always dabbled with art, drawing, painting and crafting as a hobby.  She shared her love of creativity with her children and later taught art in several summer programs for kids.  She taught an after school art program called Art through Nature, where she shared different mediums to show children the beauty of life using stone, shells, fish printing with inks and several other methods.

After her kids grew up and upon selling her business seven years ago she came back to her love and devotion to her art stronger than ever before. Moving down to Florida for the winters after her retirement,  she joined the Miami Ceramics League and studied using the pottery wheel, glazing, hand building and creating mosaic. She continued her study of pottery work for several years in Miami and learned the basics of working with clay and has continued her study and mentorship in ceramics now on the west coast of Florida, working with master potter, Jack Vatarian.

When her husband died in 2021, she would paint every day for long hours as a
way to process her grief of losing her love of 47 plus years. There was a sense of deep loss
and she found solace in painting her life, reflections and feelings. She continues to paint everyday and found it to be her life’s work. Her objective is to express and evoke emotion through her artistic expression.

She has crafted a beautiful life for herself over the last 4 years in her recommitment and devotion to creating art.  For the past several summer seasons while living on Eastern Long Island, she has been a lively force involved in curating the art shows with ART Remsenburg @ the Academy where she has also shown and sold much of her work.  She has also been featured at art exhibits at the Center Moriches Library, the Bluepoint Library, and the Southold Historical Society.  She has become an active member of various art associations in both Florida and Long Island and is constantly showing her current work on social media where she sells much of her work to her community.

She is currently doing an Art Residency in Italy for several weeks focusing on oil painting of landscapes and lighting and the interplay of the two.  She works in many mediums including oil, watercolor, gouache, batik, ceramics, and mosaic.  You can check out the range of her past work here on this site and follow her on social media to stay current on what she is currently creating @christine.cohen.1000
